americanidol american idol voting controversy

To this date, the final voting tally numbers, between the First & Second Place finishers, have NOT been revealed or made public. This has never been the case, in the history of American Idol (one of the most potent star-making AT&T, one of the biggest sponsors of American Idol, may have played a role in Kris Allen's victory over Adam Lambert according to a new report in the New York Times. The paper says that the phone company distributed cell phones with free function that permits the sending of 10 or more texts at a single time; the NYT notes such messages obviously “have an exponentially greater effect on voting than do single text messages or calls to the show's toll-free phone lines. Kris Allen won American Idol. But did he have help from the show's major corporate sponsor? Interestingly, Fox has refused to release the voting percentages or figures from this season. Why would AT&T possibly favor Allen over Lambert? Might the company prefer a clean-cut, uncontroversial champion of a show it sponsors? We don't know. But this rumor won't quiet critics that believe Lambert lost due to his sexual orientation.
