CLUNKER BILL: The House on Tuesday waded deeper into the rescue of the troubled auto industry when it passed a $4 billion plan to subsidize new cars sales for consumers who scrap old ones. Sen Diane Feinstein, a co-sponsor of the greener bill – S. 1200 – said today that she doesn't believe she's got the votes to out-muscle Sen. Debbie Stabenow's competing clunker bill, which mirrors the version just passed by the House. Tyler Automotive GM Division President Scott Tyler said the word "clunker" is a misnomer that might deceive some people into thinking their car doesn't qualify. Tyler said the bill will help his dealership.
