In modern times, the term Ides of March is best known In Roman times the expression “Ides of March” was simply the standard way of saying “March 15.” The term Ides comes from the earliest Roman calendar, which is said to have been devised by Romulus, the mythical founder of Rome. In Roman times the expression “Ides of March” didn't necessarily invoke a dark mood, it simply was a way of saying March15, “Kalends” meant the first day and “Nones” meant the 7th day.
