They almost hired Jeremy Hunsicker over Hugo; well almost, because as we know even Jeremy was credited to be a part of the writing of "Never Walk Away" and got his Platinum plaque for the the album "Revelation", the gig ended up with Arnel Pineda. There are 2 issues to consider. The Journey team does not want a complete clone of Steve Perry. They wanted somebody fresh, who does not exactly sound like Perry but at the same time can sing the classic material. The other issue is, Hugo's voice a a bit thin and lacks power. Hugo was actually considered by Journey as well as many others.
